Sid Williams Theatre Society presents
Ten Lost Years
Wednesday, September 15th at 7:30pm
"Stripped of any kind of set or props, these stories more than stood on their own. They strolled over to me, sat down beside me and put an arm around my shoulders like I was an intimate friend."
Seacoast Theatre Centre's (STC) highly acclaimed production of Ten Lost Years has played to sold-out houses throughout Western Cnanada. Ten Lost Years brings life, the stories and songs of an entire generation of Canadians who lived during the Great Depression. Told with an astonishingly honest simplicity- just the actors giving voice to the images - these stories portray the courage, incredible humour and stoicism of the men and women who lived through these tumultuous times as recorded in Broadfoot's masterpiece.
Ten Lost Years is a powerful and an award winning play, adapted and compiled by Scott Swan, about real people and communities during the "Dirty 30's". It is a compilation of stories about hard times and about resilience in the face of extended drought and economic depression. Based on the 1973 book by Barry Broadfoot, this simple and powerfu production brings to life, in a manner no textbook can, the extraordinary lives of the men, women and children who survived Canada's Great Depression. These are the true stories of our grandparents and great-grandparents, some of whom lived right here in Canada. With humour and emotion, Ten Lost Years captures the tragedy, love, and courage necessary to survive one of the darkest times in Canadian history. Poignant and moving.
There is a "Greet and Meet" after the performance.

Friday, September 17th at 7:30 pm
The year 2010 marks the centennial of Canada's Navy. We will celebrate this anniversary by offering concerts across the country. The Performances entitled "Sailors and Songs - A Musical Tribute to 100 Years of Service to Canada" will be top quality entertainment with a variety of music that will appeal to a wide range of people. www.navy.forces.gc.ca/centennial

The Naden Band is Canada’s West Coast Navy Band. The 35 professional musicians with guest vocalists Ken Lavigneand Stephanie Greaves are tasked with bringing goodwill to the citizens of our country. Our featured soloists have many years of performing experience and bring to the concert a very special flair. Ken Lavigne, an emerging lyrical tenor recently did his Carnegie Hall debut and has been compared to Andrea Bocelli. Stephanie Greaves covers the jazz and pop genre and joins with Ken for some heart moving duets. In past performances there was not a dry eye on the house during some of the more stirring selections.
This concert will be a review of music over the century with a sailing theme. The music will range from songs popular during World War One to the big band era, Stan Rogers (Northwest Passage) and even Rod Stewart (Sailing). Video presentations will also cover the development of technology as we start with black and white photos, moving to colour and finally to video with various effects. This concert has something for everyone and will be a very good entertainment at a reasonable price. As a memento of the Navy Centennial, we would like to offer all audience members a complimentary copy of the CD "Sailors and Songs" recently recorded by the Naden Band with Ken Lavigne and Stephanie Greaves.

High Tide Entertainment presents
Johnny Winter and Band
Opening guest is David Gogo
Sunday, September 19th at 7:30 pm
|
|
The Texas guitar tradition runs deep. A gutsy school of blues playing, marked by thick tones, aggressive attack and tons of technigue, all delivered in a flamboyant, swaggering style that is endemic to the Lone Star State.
For 40 years Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing with Columbia Records in 1969, he immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues with a powerful combination of authentic Texas funk and his own high energy interpretation for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between primal country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson to scorching electric slide guitar, Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and influential guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues rock and American Southern rock ala the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Throughout the 70s and 80s he was the unofficial torch bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

The Johnny Winter story is the stuff of legend. Born in Beaumont, Texas, in a rough and tumble oil town he grew up listening to and then playing Blues and Rock 'n' Roll at a very early age. His inclusion in a story about Texas music in Rolling Stone in 1968 ignited a bidding war among record labels for his phenomenal talent. Since 1969 and his self-titled debut, Johnny has recorded almost 40 albums of classic rock and blues and was one of the top arena rock acts in the mid-70s. In the late 70s he produced and played on a stunning series of Grammy award winning albums with Muddy Waters, who affectionately referred to Johnny as his "son." The recordings served as a "comeback" for his idol while also refreshing his own deep and unwavering love of the blues.
Today Johnny Winter is enjoying an unparalleled resurgence performing to sold out shows worldwide even after a long life full of honors and accomplishments such as a triumphant appearance at Eric Clapton's 2007 Crossroads Festival with Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy and Clapton that has been immortalized on the Emmy award winning DVD. In a ceremony with Slash presenting in Nashville, Gibson Guitars released the signature Johnny Winter Firebird guitar that has been his beloved trademark for years. A Live through the 70s DVD is a hit along with his Live Bootleg Series CDs that have all entered the Top 10 Billboard Blues charts. Two unique instructional DVDs have been produced by Cherry Lane/Hal Leonard to the gratitude of players around the world. Always one for special appearances he recently performed with the Allman Brothers at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan on the 40th anniversary of their debut. In addition Winter has been headlining such prestigious events as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, Swedish Rock Fest, Warren Haynes X-mas jam and Europe's Rockpalast viewed by millions just to name a few. Warner Bros. has now released a 40th anniversary DVD of Woodstock: 3 Days of Love and Peace the Director's cut featuring, for the first time, Johnny playing his smoking classic "Meantown Blues." His recent Grammy nominated "I'm A Bluesman" disc on Virgin/EMI, has only added to his Texas-sized reputation. Joining him on this CD are 2 members of his current scorching road-tested touring band consisting of guitarist Paul Nelson, bassist Scott Spray, and newly added drummer Vito Liuzzi.
Performing now with a renewed vigor and fire to say that he is "back" would be an understatement. In fact, he never left. He is just better than ever.

“The Mousetrap” has been running for 58 years in London and proves to be entertaining for current audiences. The excellent writing has given us interesting and well developed characters that all have a deep secret and personal agendas that spin a delightful plot right to the end.
This play is more than a “mystery play”.
It is a classic in western theatre and is a perfect choice for
